How to Get to Koh Phangan
Here’s an estimate of the different travel options from Bangkok to Koh Phangan, ranked from most expensive to least expensive:
- Plane + Taxi + Speedboat: The Express Formula
- The fastest way to reach paradise! Take a flight to Koh Samui, then a speedboat to Koh Phangan. Be aware that direct Bangkok-Koh Samui flights can be expensive, especially at the last minute. Count about 4 hours of travel from the airport to Koh Phangan.
- Plane + Bus + Ferry: The Good Compromise
- Fly to Surat Thani, then take a Pantip shuttle to Donsak port and finish with a ferry. It’s well-organized by agencies and, in my opinion, the best time/budget ratio. Plan for a day of travel.
- Bus + Ferry: For Budget-Conscious Adventurers
- Take a bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani, then head to Donsak port by bus or taxi, and finally the ferry. It’s generally cheaper than flying, but prepare for a long journey: count 2 days from Bangkok!
- Bus + Train + Ferry: The Scenic Option
- Some companies offer packages combining bus and train to Surat Thani, then ferry. It’s sometimes cheaper than direct options. Prices vary depending on the chosen class (sleeper or seated) and booking time. Count one night and one day from Bangkok.
Friendly Advice:
- Avoid the night ferry: it’s an old wooden boat with hygiene and safety standards from another era. To book in advance, check out the 12GO.com website, it’s a safe bet.
- Remember: prices can fluctuate depending on the season, availability, and service class.
- The best plan? Compare and book early to find the best deals!
